Terms of Service
The agreement between you and the operator of Wardsong covering accounts, conduct, purchases, suspension and dispute resolution.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Wardsong Oy, an individual operator established in Finland, Business ID 1234567-8, at Wardstreet 123, 00100 Helsinki (“we”, “us”, the “Operator”). They govern your use of the Wardsong game client on any platform, the Wardsong game servers, this website, and every related service we provide (together, the “Service”).
When an account first uses the current legal documents, the game asks you to accept these Terms and the Community Code and to acknowledge that you have read the Privacy Policy. We record the document versions and acceptance time. If you do not accept them, do not create or use an account.
1. Who may use the Service
You may use the Service only if all of the following are true.
- You are at least 13 years old. This is a rule we set for the Service. Where processing relies specifically on a child’s consent to an information-society service, Finnish law permits that consent from age 13; other rules, including contractual capacity and guardian involvement, still apply.
- If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian has read these Terms, agrees to them on your behalf, and consents to any purchase you make.
- You are not barred from receiving the Service under any applicable sanctions or export-control law, and you have not previously been permanently banned.
We may ask you to confirm your age or your guardian’s consent, and we may suspend an account while that confirmation is outstanding.
2. Your account
You need an account to play. You may create it with a username and password or by signing in with a supported identity provider such as Google.
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. That means:
- Keep your credentials secret. Do not share, sell, rent, gift or transfer your account, and do not let anyone else play on it.
- Tell us at [email protected] as soon as you suspect unauthorised access.
- Give accurate information when you register and keep it up to date.
You may close your account at any time from Settings → Account in the game or through the account-deletion page. The authenticated in-game request has a seven-day safety window and can be cancelled from Settings during that window. We complete deletion or anonymisation within 30 days, except for records we must retain by law. Closing your account ends your licence to use the Service and forfeits any unused virtual items and virtual currency, subject to your statutory rights described in section 9 and in the Refund and Withdrawal Policy.
3. Licence to play
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the game client on devices you own or control, and to access the Service, for your own non-commercial entertainment.
We keep all rights we do not expressly grant. The detailed software licence, including what you may not do with the client, is in the End User Licence Agreement.
4. Rules of conduct
The Community Code of Conduct is part of these Terms. In short, and without limiting it, you must not:
- cheat, exploit bugs, automate play, use unauthorised third-party software, or interfere with the game’s normal operation;
- harass, threaten, defame, impersonate, or incite violence or hatred against anyone, in chat, character names, guild names or any other player-visible text;
- upload, transmit or link to illegal content, including material that sexually exploits children, promotes terrorism, or infringes someone’s intellectual property;
- buy, sell or trade accounts, characters, virtual items or virtual currency for real money outside the Service;
- probe, scan or attack our infrastructure, or attempt to access parts of the Service you have not been granted access to;
- extract, scrape or reuse game data at a scale or in a manner that burdens the Service or substitutes for playing it.
Responsible security research reported in good faith to [email protected] is welcome and we will not pursue you for it, provided you do not access other players’ data, degrade the Service, or disclose the issue before we have had a reasonable chance to fix it.
5. Player content and moderation
The Service lets you send chat messages and choose names for characters and guilds (“player content”). You keep whatever rights you have in your player content. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display and transmit it for the purpose of operating, moderating and securing the Service.
We do not pre-screen player content, but we may review, filter, refuse, edit or remove it. We log chat for a limited period so we can investigate abuse reports, fraud and cheating; retention periods are in the Privacy Policy.
Reporting illegal content. Anyone — player or not — can notify us of content they consider illegal by emailing [email protected] with:
- where the content is (a link, or the in-game location, character or guild name and an approximate time);
- an explanation of why you consider the content illegal;
- your name and an email address for follow-up (except for material concerning offences under Articles 3–7 of Directive 2011/93/EU, which you may report anonymously); and
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the information in your notice is accurate and complete.
We confirm receipt of notices sent this way, act on them without undue delay, and tell both the notifier and the affected player what we decided and why. If we restrict your account or remove your content, we will give you a statement of reasons and you may appeal within six months, in the game from that notice or to the same address. This section reflects our obligations as a hosting service under EU Regulation 2022/2065 (the Digital Services Act).
6. Virtual items and virtual currency
The Service includes virtual currency (such as crystals) and virtual items (gear, cosmetics, boosts, keys and similar).
- Virtual currency and virtual items are a licence to use a feature of the Service. They are not your property, not a deposit, not e-money, and have no value outside the Service.
- They cannot be exchanged for real money, transferred out of the Service, or inherited.
- We may change, rebalance, re-price, retire or remove any virtual item or game feature. Where a change materially and permanently removes something you paid real money for, and the change is not required to keep the Service secure or lawful, we will offer a comparable replacement or a proportionate refund.
- Unused virtual currency and items are forfeited when your account closes or is permanently banned for a serious breach of these Terms.
The game is in alpha. During alpha we may reset the game world, including characters, progress and items. We announce planned resets in advance. Virtual currency you bought with real money is restored to your account after a reset.
7. Purchases
Purchases inside the game are made through the platform store you installed the game from — Google Play or the Apple App Store — under that store’s own terms. On Google Play you buy from us, and Google processes the payment and, where it is required to, collects and remits VAT. On the Apple App Store, Apple or its regional subsidiary acts as our commissionaire or agent for the sale, depending on your territory. In every case the store handles payment processing and issues the receipt, and we never see your card details.
Prices shown include VAT where the store applies it. A purchase is complete when the store confirms it and the entitlement appears on your account, which normally happens within seconds and may take longer if a store or network is degraded.
Subscriptions renew automatically for the period you selected until you cancel them in your store account. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.
8. Advertising
The game may offer optional rewarded advertisements: you choose to watch an ad and receive an in-game reward. You never have to watch an ad to progress, and we do not show interstitial or forced advertising.
Where the law requires consent for advertising identifiers or personalised ads, we ask for it through a consent dialog before any ad loads, and you can change your answer later in the game’s settings. Details of the ad partner and what it receives are in the Privacy Policy.
9. Your right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the EU or the EEA you generally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. Because digital content is delivered immediately, you lose that right once delivery has begun with your express consent and your acknowledgement that you thereby lose it — which is what the platform store asks you to confirm at checkout.
The full explanation, including how to ask for a refund and the model withdrawal form, is in the Refund and Withdrawal Policy.
10. Availability, changes and alpha status
We aim to keep the Service available but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may take the Service down for maintenance, updates, security work, or reasons outside our control.
The Service is under active development. Features may be added, changed or removed. We may end the Service entirely; if we do, we will give at least 30 days’ notice on this website and in game, stop selling virtual currency immediately, and where the law requires it refund unused virtual currency bought with real money.
11. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access, remove content, or reverse in-game transactions if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or the Code of Conduct, if it is necessary to protect other players or the Service, or if we are required to do so by law.
We match the measure to the breach: a warning or temporary restriction for a minor or first breach, a permanent ban for serious or repeated ones — cheating, real-money trading, payment fraud, and abuse that targets other people.
We tell you what we did and why, except where telling you would be unlawful. You may appeal any decision within six months, in the game from its notice or at [email protected], and a person — not an automated system — reviews the appeal.
12. Our liability
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under mandatory Finnish consumer protection law.
Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data beyond our backup obligations, or the loss of virtual items or progress caused by events outside our reasonable control. Our total liability for all claims arising in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you actually paid us for the Service in that period, or EUR 50.
If you are a consumer, your statutory rights against us are unaffected by this section.
13. Intellectual property
Wardsong, the Wardsong name and logo, the game client, artwork, music, text, game data and the structure of the game world belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and trademark law.
You may create and share screenshots, videos, streams and fan art of the game, including monetised videos and streams on platforms that pay creators, provided you do not claim we endorse you, do not use our marks in a way that suggests official status, and do not distribute the game files themselves. We may withdraw this permission from a specific person or use.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms when the Service, our business or the law changes. If a change materially affects your rights or obligations we will notify you at least 30 days before it takes effect, in game or by email, and tell you what changed. If you do not accept the change, you may close your account before it takes effect; continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the new version. Every version is published here with its version number and effective date.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Finnish law. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of habitual residence.
Talk to us first: most problems are solved by writing to [email protected].
If we cannot resolve it, a consumer resident in Finland may refer the dispute to the Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariitalautakunta, https://www.kuluttajariita.fi) after first contacting the Consumer Advisory Service (https://www.kkv.fi/kuluttaja-asiat/kuluttajaneuvonta/). Consumers elsewhere in the EU can find their national alternative dispute resolution body through their local consumer centre; the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform ceased operating on 20 July 2025 and is no longer available.
Court proceedings may be brought before Helsinki District Court or, if you are a consumer, before the court of the district where you live.
16. General
If a clause is held invalid, the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor of our business, and will tell you if we do. These Terms, the EULA, the Code of Conduct, the Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
